About SalaryCheck

What this site is, what it isn't, and why we built it.

The one-line pitch

SalaryCheck is an anonymous, community-contributed salary database for Bangalore tech workers. No accounts. No LinkedIn. No paywall. Share once, see everything.

Why it exists

Salary information in Indian tech is asymmetric. Recruiters and HR teams run structured benchmarking software; individual candidates negotiate off Reddit threads and WhatsApp groups. That's a bad deal for everyone who works for a living.

The goal is simple: let every Bangalore tech worker walk into a negotiation knowing, to the rupee, what their role is worth at their company.

Why only Bangalore?

Because starting narrow beats starting vague. The Bangalore tech market is the densest and most liquid in India — one city, one industry, ~2M engineers. Good data for one market is more useful than thin data for ten. We'll expand when this one works.

How the data gets here

Everything is user-submitted. There's no scraping, no paid panel, no purchased dataset. We seeded the initial entries from public Reddit discussions clearly marked source: imported, and every subsequent submission is a real person typing a real number into a form.

That means the data is noisy. We run three defenses against noise:

  • A plausibility filter (LLM) that hides implausible numbers before publication.
  • A 3-flag community hide rule — if three users flag an entry, it's auto-hidden.
  • A dedupe index that stops the same submitter from posting the same tuple twice.

What we don't do

  • We don't verify identity. We can't and won't.
  • We don't ask for your email.
  • We don't sell data. We don't have customers.
  • We don't show ads.
  • We don't run A/B tests on you.

See the privacy page for the full story on what we log and why.

Who runs this

A small independent team. No company behind it. If SalaryCheck ever starts to feel like a product rather than a utility, that's a bug — tell us.

Want to help?

Share your own salary (the whole thing only works if people do), and pass the link to one person who's negotiating right now.
